On Tuesday night, members of the Class of 2018 and their parents attended “Take the Next Step,” our annual college night just for juniors. The evening started with a mini college fair, where students and their parents could speak to admissions representatives and pick up brochures from over 24 colleges. Following this time, students and parents had a choice of 14 sessions to attend. Presentations ranged from “Choosing the ‘Best Fit’ School” (presented by Brother Martin graduate and current Millsaps student Benton Brown ‘13 and his mother Dionne Brown) to “Internships and Future Employment” (presented by Brother Martin graduate Floyd Reidlinger ‘01) to “FAFSA/Financial Aid/TOPS” (presented by Rhonda Bridevaux from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance). Other sessions focused on collegiate athletic participation, applying to competitive colleges, Greek life, writing the admissions essay, the parents’ transition to college, and careers in engineering.
This program is another part of Brother Martin’s expansive and multi-year efforts to educate students and parents on the college selection and application process.
