The Chemistry classes of Mr. Dossaji, Dr. Jouandot, and Mr. Valiente recently stepped into the lab for some holiday magic. The students used a sophisticated system of chemical reactions, Liebig’s silver mirror reaction and Tollen’s test for aldehydes, to take plain, clear glass ornaments and turn them into silver ornaments. The reactions lay a thin layer of actual silver on the inside of the glass ornament to produce the silver globe. The students will take the ornaments home to place on their personal trees.
