CGN Takes on New Format at Spring Social

IMG_2888This spring, members of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association’s Crimson and Gold Network (CGN) assembled together for an annual spring social. Typically, a special guest speaker in the business community addresses the members during the networking event. This networking social is also held for alumni to exchange business information and to catch up on current events and trending business topics.

On Wednesday night, alumni members were treated to a new format that consisted of a roundtable network and social. The night kicked-off with registration in the Tom and Gayle Benson Mall where guests were updated about upcoming school news from Principal Ryan Gallagher ‘00. Following the update, Director of Alumni Scott Corrente ’83 introduced various alumni guest speakers to the audience.  Guests welcomed Senior VP of Finance & Administration Emmett Dupas ’88 of Northwestern Mutual Investment Services (Finance), Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration Jeff Teague ’91 of Greater New Orleans, Inc. (Local Economy), President & Chief Officer Mark Romig ’74 of the New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Corp.  (Hospitality), Asst. Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology Kraig de Lanzac ’86, M.D., FASA at Tulane University School of Medicine (Healthcare); and Security Coordinator Tim Bayard ‘74 of Chevron (Law Enforcement/First Responders). These speakers presented information on their professional interests and answered questions from the audience which prompted interesting discussions.

Dupas presented information about the investment market and updated the group on the new tax laws while de Lanzac spoke about the advent of “value-based” care as he revealed the dramatic changes that patients are experiencing in healthcare. Romig, who is carrying out the New Orleans Tricentennial campaign, spoke about our rich tourism in the city and advances in travel and media for our city’s tourism. Because of the increase in various developments downtown, Teague, along with Ryan Bordenave ’91, discussed new downtown developments that are vital to our city’s economic growth. In addition, Bayard, a former NOPD officer, talked about the challenges of being in law enforcement from the recruiting efforts to the training of young members eager to be part of the police force.

Following the presentation, CGN members broke into their smaller groups based on their interest for the roundtable discussions. Then, guests reconvened for a networking social in the Mall with great conversation!

Thank you to all of our sponsors, staff, and attendees for supporting the CGN spring social!
