Cemeteries of New Orleans

Yesterday, Mrs. Williams’s 4th period Geography class had a guest speaker from the Save Our Cemeteries organization.  St. Aloysius alum, Mr. Michael Duplantier ’64, discussed the historical and cultural influence of the different cemeteries in New Orleans and around the world.  Topics of the presentation ranged from the early history and locations of the cities first cemeteries to the different types of tombs and how to preserve their beauty.  The mission of Save our Cemeteries is to preserve, protect, and promote the historic cemeteries of New Orleans through restoration, education, and advocacy.  A special thanks to Mr. Duplantier and the rest of the organization for taking the time to enlighten the students on this subject.
