"The Trey Culotta tournament, hosted annually by Brother Martin, pays homage to an alumnus whose life was tragically cut short in a car accident. This iconic event has been a staple in Louisiana, attracting teams from across the southern states.

Now in its 23rd year, the tournament continues to expand, with 31 teams and 11 out-of-state opponents participating this year. Notable contenders included Texas state champions Bishop Lynch and Alabama state champions Vestavia Hills. The tournament lived up to its reputation, delivering excitement on both days of competition.

With an impressive total of 333 points, Brother Martin clinched the team title at the Trey Culotta tournament, outshining second-place Christian Brothers from Tennessee at 303 points...

As the Crusaders entered the finals with six wrestlers vying for championship crowns, the outcome saw three individuals from Brother Martin ascend to the podium. Senior Hunter Chabert (8-0) marked his triumphant return to the mat with a significant victory over the state’s top-ranked wrestler, Aiden Krass (38-2) of East Ascension. Sophomore Quinn McDermott (23-8) also created a stir with an upset against a reigning Division I state champion, Samuel Favaza, verifying his ability to compete in the weight class.

The spotlight remained on junior Richie Clementi (26-0), a two-time state champion and undefeated wrestler, who continued his dominance at 138lbs. Clementi’s impressive record of six technical fall victories and one pin highlighted his commitment to excellence. In a finals match that had been eagerly awaited by many spectators, Richie Clementi faced his familiar opponent Caleb Lavine, whom Clementi had previously defeated only by major decision in their two encounters. This time around, Clementi clinched a decisive victory with a fall in 2:47.

Looking ahead, the Crusaders are poised to take their prowess on the road to Atlanta, Georgia, for the Prep Slam next weekend, carrying the momentum of their outstanding performances at the Trey Culotta tournament."
