Brother Martin (24-12) found themselves in a pitcher’s dual in the State semifinals but failed to provide enough offense to beat Catholic High on Friday at McMurray Park. Corey Gaconi led the Crusaders with a stellar six-inning performance striking out four batters and giving up only one earned run.
Catholic High scored the only run of the game on an RBI single in the seventh inning to advance to the LHSAA State finals.
Brother Martin finished the season with a 24-12 record after starting the year off at 1-5. The Crusaders were the lowest seeded team at 14 to reach the State semifinals before losing to the number two seed, Catholic High.
