Brother Martin’s ‘Return to Learning Plan’

Dear Parents,

Please click HERE to access the Brother Martin High School “Return to Learning Plan” that outlines extensive details regarding campus safety protocols and each of the five possible learning & instruction models that Brother Martin may implement based on the status of our city and state relative to COVID-19.

As of this posting, we will open the 2020-21 school year in the Hybrid Learning model. Beginning the year with this model is a necessary step in order to satisfy a number of requirements as set forth by the state Department of Education, especially as they relate to physical distancing and maximum group size requirements. The curriculum has been adapted to maximize instructional time and to ensure that all skills and content within a course are covered. Teachers will lead face-to-face instruction from their classrooms at school. Students who are assigned to the day’s cohort will be in the classroom, physically distanced to the maximum extent possible, while students who are not assigned to the day’s cohort will work independently from home using Schoology applications as well as other means to complete assignments. Please know that the remote day will consist of intentional, meaningful learning designed to advance your son through his course work. The structure of the remote day will certainly look differently than a traditional day of school, but your son’s instruction will not be sacrificed. Our faculty have been working over the past four months in preparation for this possibility, and we are ready for this unique challenge.

You and your sons will be notified via email on Tuesday, August 4 regarding which cohort (A or B) he has been placed in.

Details regarding the 8th & 9th grade First Day of School will also be communicated this week. All students will begin school as originally scheduled with the 8th & 9th grade reporting for classes on Monday, August 17, all students in the A cohort reporting on Tuesday, August 18, and all students in the B cohort reporting on Wednesday, August 19. Student Orientation will take place over three days from August 12-14, as previously communicated.

Please know that our primary goal is to return to campus at full capacity as soon as it is safe to do so. While we are planning to begin the year in the Hybrid model, we hope that this model is one we have to implement only temporarily. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at school so that we can assist you. Thank you for your continued partnership and for entrusting your sons to our care. While this school year will be one like no other, our faculty and staff are excited for the year and look forward to seeing our students and parents in the coming weeks.
