On December 14, the Crusaders were dominate on the wrestling mat against Archbishop Rummel by a score of 72-3. Seniors Daniel Varnado and Steven Shields led the way with big victories over their highly ranked opponents. On Tuesday night, the basketball team took a loss to the Chalmette Owls by a score of 76-64, but now look for a comeback this weekend.
This Saturday, the Brother Martin Crusaders will host the St. Paul’s Wolves in a dual sport doubleheader in basketball and wrestling at the Robert M. Conlin Gymnasium. These two events will be streamed live on SportsNOLA.com. The basketball game will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by a wrestling dual meet at 7 p.m. with Ken Trahan calling both games. The Crusaders are the reigning Division I state wrestling champions and have captured five straight titles of the past 17 championships. St. Paul’s took home the Division II state wrestling title in 2000 and 2001. Both basketball programs are coming off successful seasons that saw each make the 5A playoffs last year. The Crusaders last won the basketball state championship in 2010.
