Brother Martin Senior Awarded 40k Per Year Esports Scholarship at Loyola University

Brother Martin senior Malachi Lee '24 has been selected to receive a $40,000 per year scholarship by Loyola University New Orleans in participation with their esports program. This announcement comes on the heels of the very successful, inaugural PlayVS Regional Championship run spearheaded by Lee, his teammates, and Coach Christopher Maiolo.

Malachi was recruited by the Loyola esports program while competing in the South Louisiana Majors (SLAM) tournament during his junior year at Brother Martin last spring, even going far as to compete in the championship round versus Loyola's team captain. Malachi competes in tournaments around the state, and he is one of the highest ranked Smash Bros. player in the greater New Orleans area.

According to coach Christopher Maiolo, "Malachi was the senior captain of Brother Martin's Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Team. To say he was just the captain would be downplaying the role he took on.  As one of the top players in the state, Malachi's skill level and knowledge of the game was so high that he would be the one making in-game adjustments for our players, preparing them for potential match-ups, and taking notes of things we needed to work on in practice, all the while being matched up against our opponent's best player every week and holding an impressing 34-4 game record. We couldn't be more proud of Malachi's dedication and willingness to lead the team in our first year as a PlayVS Central United States Regional Runner-up."

Congratulations, Malachi, and good luck next year!
