Brother Martin Names Wesley Laurendine Head Basketball Coach

Brother Martin High School announced that Wesley Laurendine has been named the varsity head coach of the Crusader basketball program. Laurendine, a graduate of Archbishop Rummel and the University of Southern Mississippi, most recently served as the head basketball coach at Archbishop Shaw, a post he held since 2015. Laurendine’s Shaw teams reached the LHSAA State Semifinals in each of the last four years and advanced to the Division II State Championship game this past season.

“We are excited to introduce Wesley Laurendine as our leader of the Crusader basketball program. Wesley’s passion and energy for teaching is obvious, and his holistic approach to teaching young people, which aligns with the educational tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and Brother Martin High School, is truly exciting for our school community. We are thrilled to welcome Wesley, his wife Anne, and their two daughters, Zofia and Lena, to the Crusader family,” said Principal Ryan Gallagher ‘00.

“Wesley has had a tremendous amount of success at Archbishop Shaw; he is a great motivator, and it is evident that he cares deeply about the young men he teaches and coaches. With six state championships in our school’s history, three titles in the last twenty years, and four Top 28 appearances in the last ten years, Coach Laurendine is inheriting one of the most storied basketball programs in the state of Louisiana, and we look forward to that continued success under his leadership,” said Crusader Athletics Director Mr. Mark Wisniewski ‘81.

“Having the chance to join the Brother Martin family is a great honor for me and my family. Taking over such a historic program that I have always admired from afar is a privilege that I do not take lightly. I am very excited to work with the faculty, staff, and administrators here at Brother Martin giving our student-athletes the best possible experience. I appreciate the community’s support and look forward to working together to build a culture based on love, toughness, and family. My wife Anne‘ and my daughters Zofia and Lena are all very excited to become part of this wonderful community,” said Laurendine.

Mr. Laurendine will be formally introduced as Brother Martin’s tenth Head Basketball coach on Friday, March 28 at 3:15 p.m. in the Conlin Gym at Brother Martin.
