The newest officers and members of the Excalibur National Honor Society for Excellence in Science, Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, and Student Council were inducted into their respective organizations on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. More than 110 Crusaders were honored by their moderator(s) for their accomplishments, and each inductee was challenged to serve the Brother Martin community with the gifts and talents that God has given them.

Following the inductions, Brother Martin senior Jay Childs shared powerful closing remarks. Here is an excerpt from his speech:

"I encourage you to be “all in” to the commitments that you make. There will be days when you do not feel like getting up early. There will be days when you do not feel like staying late. There will be days when the person sitting next to you gets on your last nerve, and there will be days when you aggravate someone else. It happens. We are human. It’s in our nature. But I encourage you to give your absolute best efforts to your club participation and to set lofty goals despite anything the world may throw at you. A word of advice from someone who has been there time and time again: the days when you don’t feel like doing something that you should do, you do it anyway; those days are the most fulfilling. They help to build your integrity, and you will be better off for it (even if you don’t realize it at this moment). And when something positive stems from that difficult day, like placing in a Mu Alpha Theta tournament, or running an organized Quiz Bowl for NHS, or hearing a prospective student at an ambassador event say that he now wants to come to Brother Martin, or getting a perfect score on a marching band assessment. Those are the days that make you feel all Crimson and Gold inside.

And one day, after all of that hard work, you too will be seniors who will have to hand off the fruits of your labor to a new generation of Crusaders who will be sitting in the exact seats where you are now. Don’t give them something that is filled with your regrets or your couldas, or your wouldas, or your shouldas. Give them an organization that you are proud to be a part of. That you are proud to have made better...."

Brother Martin is honored to be home to such shining examples of Christlike servitude. We are inspired by our students honored at this ceremony who have taken up the call of leadership for purpose of bettering our Brother Martin community. Congratulations to all those who were inducted this year! We look forward to seeing all the great things that you contribute to Brother Martin and the greater community in the future. You are true servant leaders.
