This morning, the Brother Martin High School community gathered in the Robert M. Conlin Gymnasium to celebrate the Foundation Day of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart with a beautiful liturgy. Our school community joined in a number of intentional schools in the days in celebration of Foundation Day.
Today, we paused in thanksgiving for the vision of Father Andre’ Coindre, the Brothers' founder, and the charism bestowed upon him by the Holy Spirit. His vision and this charism spread from Lyon, France to over 30 countries and more than 200 schools across the world. We were blessed to have Father Kyle Dave ‘89 preside over our liturgy today. Bro. Bernie Couvillion, S.C. shared a relevant reflection with our students before Mass as well.
Our 2022 Alumnus of the Year, Kraig S. de Lanzac, MD, FASA ’86, spoke to our Crusaders after our Foundation Day liturgy today about what it means to be a Crusader, even after graduation:
"When you finish at Brother Martin, you will have the foundation for success in your life, both in what you learn at home during these years and what you learn within these walls. Build on that foundation for the rest of your life and never stop building and renovating. Give back to your school, have pride in your school. Remaining involved in your school is not living in the past, but rather building the future.
I treasure my time here at Brother Martin, and one of my commitments is to always be there for this school when they need me. I want to preserve what we have for you and for generations of students to come. Look at the number of former alumni in the teacher ranks. Look at the number of graduates who send their young men to this school. We don’t need to be anyone else other than who we are: Crusaders."
