On Monday, December 11th, the Brother Martin chorus held its annual Christmas concert at Transfiguration of the Lord Church. The concert began with members of the fifth period class singing “Let Music Surround You,” a partner song incorporating “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” “I Wanna Sing,” and “Rain Music” featuring Mr. Kevin Estoque on percussion. The combined fifth and sixth period Chorus members finished this section of the program with the traditional Christmas carol “The First Noel.”
Sixth period Chorus members opened the next section of the program with “Shout for Joy,” based upon Psalm 98. Their program consisted of a mixture of traditional Christmas carols and folk songs from around the world. “The Boatmen’s Dance,” from Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, featured Jack Norwood as soloist. “Fillimiooriay,” an Irish folk song, and “The Streets of Laredo,” an American cowboy song, demonstrated the versatility of our singers. “Tshotsholoza,” a South African miners’ song, featured Roman Patton as soloist. The sixth period members concluded this section of the program with “Good King Wenceslas,” with Joshua Dinh and Ramon Ramos providing solos, and “Do You Hear What I Hear?”
Members of our alumni Chorus, representing graduates from 1976 through 2019, performed Dan Forrest’s arrangement of “Silent Night,” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” We are most grateful for our alumni singers and their continued contributions to our concerts.
As is our tradition, the concert concluded with current students and alumni performing “O Sacred Heart.”
