Brother Martin Chorus and Alumni Perform at 50th Anniversary Spring Chorus Concert

It was that time of year again for the Brother Martin Chorus to come together for their annual spring concert on Thursday, May 9 at St. Catherine of Siena Church. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the school’s inception and the 150th anniversary of the presence of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, the concert highlighted the special celebration of the 50th anniversary of our chorus program.

The concert opened with a performance of “Zion’s Walls”, which was followed by “Tell My Father,” featuring Hunter Dunn ’19 as soloist. In addition, chorus director Kevin Caparotta ‘88 presented awards to students and thanked them for their dedication to our music program. Others songs performed by our Crusaders were “Do You Not Know?” and “The Streets of Laredo.” Featuring soloist Robbie McDonald ’19, the Crusader Chorus closed out their performance with “Ride the Chariot.”

The program continued with special performances from our Alumni Chorus. Alumni Chorus members from the Classes of 1972-2018 joined together for a special night of reminiscing with founding chorus director Mike Cottingham, former director and current Brother Martin President Greg Rando ’77, and current chorus director Kevin Caparotta ’88.  The Alumni Chorus performed over 7 songs including “Come Again, Sweet Love,” “Prelude to Peace” (in memory of Ben Kuylen ‘98), “Down in the Valley,” “Ave Maria,” and more. Alumnae of Mount Carmel’s Chorale joined in singing “Prelude to Peace” in honor of the collaboration of the two choirs over the 50-year history of the program. Cottingham, Rando, and Caparotta also thanked the guests for attending while they shared stories from the earlier days of the Chorus program at Brother Martin.

Finally, alumni in the audience joined the three choirs for the singing of "O Sacred Heart." Following the concert, there was a social for Alumni Chorus members at Porter & Luke’s in Metairie.

Thank you to directors Kevin Caparotta ’88, Mike Cottingham, President Greg Rando ‘77, the 50/150 Anniversary Committee, and the Crusader and Alumni Choruses for their final concert performance of the 2018-2019 school year!
