Brother Martin High School gathered as one school community in Christ to take part in our Immaculate Conception liturgy, led by Fr. Jeremy Lambert, in the Robert M. Conlin Gymnasium on December 8, 2022. Afterward, the Bro. More Schaefer Award recipient for the 2022-2023 school year was named.
After the liturgy, principal Ryan Gallagher '00 spoke to the importance of the Bro. More Schaefer Award, stating: "This is not an annual teacher of the year award - it is much, much more than that."
Mr. Gallagher continued: "This year’s recipient is a model of servant leadership – the very leadership that we challenge you to rise to every day. This faculty member has shared gifts with our community in countless ways and is always there, instructing, forming, and bearing witness. This faculty member instructs through an unflinching commitment to personal attention and friendly discipline with every student whom he encounters.
Much of his work is accomplished behind the scenes while no one is watching or in some cases when no one is even around; other times it is with small groups or individuals, often at the drop of a hat with little or no advanced notice. Many of the luxuries that contribute to the cutting-edge nature of our school in technology, course enhancements, and even in the facilities, we owe to the diligent commitment of this member of our faculty. This faculty member embodies the phrase in our school prayer, “selfless service of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart,” and that service benefits both our students and our faculty in countless ways that we often take for granted.
This faculty member has worked specifically to enhance our Computer Science curriculum, our state-of-the-art technology, our nationally-recognized Academic Games and Cyber Patriots teams. In many ways, he led us through hybrid and virtual instruction along with the many details and minutia that came along with instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic. And this only truly begins to scratch the surface.
At this time, I ask school President Mr. Greg Rando '77 to join me in presenting this year’s Bro. More Schaefer Award to our outstanding faculty member, Mr. Craig Zeller '02."
