On December 8, 2023, Brother Martin High School gathered as one school community in Christ to honor Mary, our Mother and the Mother of God, with our Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass led by Fr. Colm Cahill in the Robert M. Conlin Gymnasium. Alumnus of the Year, Mr. Michael Flick ’66, and his wife Julie Flick joined us in celebration of today's liturgy as well.
After Mass, principal Ryan Gallagher '00 spoke about the importance of the Bro. More Schaefer Award, stating: "This is not an annual teacher of the year award - it is much, much more than that."
Mr. Gallagher continued: "This year’s Brother More Schaefer Award recipient embodies our educational tradition every day, truly instructing all of us in Coindre’s charism; helping to form us in God’s likeness; and – above all – bearing witness as a Christian example of Jesus’s love for and devotion to our students - those true sacred hearts of Jesus.
To say that this year’s recipient is a model of servant leadership is a gross understatement of this person’s gifts to our school community – this faculty member is the epitome of the kind of leadership that we challenge our students to rise to every day.
This faculty member has shared gifts with our community in countless ways, and is seemingly always there, instructing, forming, and bearing witness. Instructing through an unflinching commitment to personal attention and friendly discipline with every student whom he encounters; forming through a dedication to your individual pursuit of excellence, be it academic or extracurricular; bearing witness through an unassuming, yet obvious devotion to Religious Values.
He has worked as a teacher for thirteen years and been a moderator of a number of extracurricular clubs and organizations, Dean of Students, and Director of Faculty Formation. His roles have been varied. His impact on our school is sizable, but cannot adequately be measured with words. At this time I ask school President Greg Rando '77 to join me in presenting this year’s Bro. More Schaefer Award to outstanding faculty member, Mr. Michael Lynn 04."
All of us here at Brother Martin High School would like to offer our warmest congratulations and thanks to Mr. Lynn for all he does for our school and young men!
