On Thursday, August 15th, the Brother Martin school community gathered in the Robert M. Conlin Gymnasium for our first Mass of the year in celebration of the Feast of the Assumption, which was offered by Fr. Tony Rigoli.
Before Mass, Director of Campus Ministry, Mr. Donald Midkiff, shared a reflection on the relevance of the Assumption of Mary for us at Brother Martin:
"When Fr. Coindre founded the Brothers, their original name was the Brother of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. This is why we have a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in front of our school and a statue of Mary in the Backyard. It is through that dual devotion that we close our prayers with Ametur Cor Jesu, Ametur Cor Mariae. This translated from Latin is Loved be the Heart of Jesus, Loved be the Heart of Mary. Mary is intimately tied to the Brother's founding and our faith in the Resurrection.
We gather today as we begin a new school year to celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This solemn feast day celebrates God embracing His mother's ascent into Heaven.
As sons of Mary, we are called to stay close to her motherly heart and share the love she has for us. Mary's Assumption reminds us that we too will share in the joy of the Resurrection."
