Brother Martin Baseball Trumps Tigers

IMG_4332Brother Martin (19-10; 5-4) capitalized on its scoring chances on Tuesday afternoon to come away with a 3-1 win over the Holy Cross Tigers.

Brother Martin would not relinquish the lead as Holy Cross was unable to weather a three-run second inning deficit.  The Crusaders got on the board first scoring one run on an RBI double by Blair Frederick in the first inning.  Brother Martin tacked on another two runs in the second. A wild pitch scored Michael Kirsch to get the Crusaders going in the inning.

Stout pitching by Luke Bernard held the Tigers scoreless until the fifth inning when Holy Cross scored its only run of the game on an RBI single.

Blair Frederick boosted his batting average and lead the way for the Crusaders thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Luke Bernard got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four, walked four and surrendered six hits.

Brother Martin will close out the regular season on Thursday against the Jesuit Blue Jays.  The game will start at 6:30 at UNO’s Maestri Field.
