Brother Martin Basketball

On Friday, the Crusader basketball team defeated the Jesuit Blue Jays in a home contest, 41 to 39.  The Crusaders entered the game without starting center Ray Lotten or leading-scorer Corey Skillman, and the team lost starting forward Clayton Lonardo in the second half.  Despite illness and injuries, the Crusaders stepped up with great teamwork and avenged an earlier loss to the Jays.

Senior Jace Patin led the way with 10 points.  Junior Corey Skillman finished the game with 9 points and a critical blocked shot in the game's last few seconds.  Always-reliable senior, Marvin Jones, quarterbacked the team's defensive effort, which held Jesuit to 8 points in the first half.  Jones grabbed 6 rebounds in the game, and starting point guard Eli Pichon grabbed 7 rebounds.
On Friday's game, Coach Christopher Biehl remarked: "Clayton Lonardo did an exceptional job holding Jesuit's best player and rebounder to 4 points and 4 rebounds during the first three periods.  After he was injured, the rest of the team came together to finish the job.  Our seniors Marvin Jones and Jace Patin did a very good job of leading us to this victory. To hold a team like Jesuit to 8 points in a half says a lot about our team's effort on defense.  I was very please with how well they played defensively."

The team returns to action on Tuesday night as they travel to Shaw.
