Broggi Leads Crusaders on Road Win

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis past weekend, the Crusaders (3-0) traveled 70 miles as they cruised to a 41-20 non-district victory Friday night at Demon Stadium.

The Crusader defense forced a three-and-out on the opening drive and followed it with another defensive stand to help give the Crusaders an early 13-0 lead.  The offense started the game on the Demon 6 yard line after the Franklinton long-snapper botched the snap to the punter and was recovered by the Crusaders to set up a first-and-goal. On the first offensive play for the Crusaders, Broggi handed the ball off to senior running back Jared West who scampered into the endzone.  The Crusaders scored again after an 80 yard drive led by the duo of West and Jordan-Swilling.  Sophomore Jordan-Swilling muscled his way in for the score to increase the lead to 13-0.

After another forced punt by the defense, Brother Martin converted a fourth-and-10 to eventually score on a pass play from Broggi to tight end Irv Smith and take the lead 20-0 after the first quarter.  Brother Martin scored twice more before the half, an 11-yard touchdown from Broggi to Smith and a 40-yard touchdown pass from Broggi to Andrew McGuire to make it 34-6 at halftime.

The Crusaders opened the second half with a 12-play, 65-yard drive and another TD coming off a 1 yard carry by Jared West.

The Crusaders would finish the game with a 41-20 victory over the Franklinton Demons.  Leading the team was Jake Broggi with 3 TDs, Irv Smith with 2 TDs, and Jared West with 2 TDs.

The Crusaders will be back in action at East Ascension this Friday versus the East Ascension Spartans.  Kick-off is set for 7:00pm.
