A Blue Star Marker honoring Veterans of the Armed Services was unveiled in recognition of Veterans Day. Shaid Stewart, a junior and member of the Brother Martin Band, played the National Anthem at the beginning of the ceremony and ended the ceremony with Taps. The ceremony was held on November 14 on the neutral ground at Veterans Memorial Boulevard and W. William David Parkway in Metairie. The Blue Star Memorial Program is a national program that honors service men and women. Present at the ceremony were Jefferson Parish President, John Young; Jefferson Parish Councilwoman Cynthia Lee-Sheng; Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand; members of Louisiana Garden Club Federation (sponsors of the memorial), and veterans of different branches of the armed services.
