Blessing of the Throats

IMG_0350In remembrance of the Feast Day of St. Blaise, Brother Martin held blessings for the healing of throats.  Students, during their religion classes, visited the Branton Chapel to receive the blessing from Brother Louis M. Couvillon, S.C

During the blessing, two candles are blessed, held slightly open, and pressed against the throat as the blessing is said. Saint Blaise’s protection of those with throat troubles comes from a legend where a boy who had a fish bone stuck in his throat was brought to him, and Saint Blaise healed him.
