Big Third Inning Leads Crusaders to Victory

IMG_4249Brother Martin (18-10) jumped out to an early lead on St. Augustine and captured an 18-2 victory on Monday at John Ryan Stadium.  Scoring 16 runs in the first three innings, the Crusaders left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

The Purple Knights grabbed the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Brother Martin answered back in their half of the inning.  An RBI triple by Blair Frederick, an RBI double by Chase Dolly, a two-run error, and an error during the first inning gave the Crusaders a 5-2 lead after one inning of play. A sacrifice fly by Jonathan Parker and an RBI single by Dolly in the second inning supplied the Crusaders with more early offense.

Brother Martin Crusaders Varsity piled on nine more runs in the bottom of the third and two more runs in the fourth to end the game 18-2 after 4 1/2 innings.

Kyler Johnston led the charge for the Crusaders reaching base four times. He scored three runs and had two RBIs. He singled in the third inning.

Michael Kirsch got the win for Brother Martin as he allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings. Kirsch struck out one, walked seven and gave up no hits.

Brother Martin will travel to Paris Ave. to face the Holy Cross Tigers today at 4 pm. Go ‘Saders!
