Big Crusader Sixth-Inning Secures Win Over Lakeshore

The Crusader baseball squad defeated Lakeshore 10-0 on Thursday night at Kirsch-Rooney after plating six runs in the sixth inning to end the game with the 10-run rule.

Brother Martin struck first when in the bottom of the first inning, Cody Ducote ripped a double with two outs, and Greg Deichmann tripled to the wall in right field, scoring pinch-runner William Douglass. Deichmann scored on an overthrow to third to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the third, Daniel Lahare and Ducote singled, Deichmann walked and Magee singled home Lahare to make it 3-0. Blake Battle scored on an error after reaching when hit-by-pitch in the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning, the Crusaders poured on six runs and ended the game as the relief pitching for Lakeshore struggled with their command.  They wound up walking five, and an error allowed a sixth runner to reach.  Pinch-hitter Andrew Boucvalt ended the game with a bases loaded RBI single.

Lakeshore couldn’t get anything going so long as Corey Gaconi was on the hill. They managed just one hit off of Gaconi, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his six innings of work.

The Crusaders will play the St. Augustine Purple Knights Friday afternoon at Kirsch-Rooney.  The game will start at 4:00 pm.
