Benton Brown ‘13 has his future planned! Benton spent his senior year at Brother Martin and his freshman year at Millsaps watching men he admired do their jobs well. At Brother Martin, Mr. Justin Fleetwood showed Benton the importance of life coaching. During his freshman year at Millsaps, Benton worked in admissions with Dr. Robert Alexander, Vice President of Enrollment, and Mr. Jonathan Ferrell, Director of Admissions. During that year, Benton witnessed the power education in Dr. Alexander; he saw how to put an MBA and PhD to work in a higher education environment to really make a difference in the life of students. At both schools, he saw men working to help students graduate and succeed in life, much like Brother Martin Hernandez’s wish teach boys not how only “to make a living but how to make a life.”
Benton will graduate this May from Millsaps and plans to get an MBA and PhD in educational leadership. He plans to marry his love of the tough questions of business with his passion for education. He wants to make sure all students have the support necessary to graduate college and enhance their lives by intertwining the lessons he learned at both Brother Martin and Millsaps. He sees himself as a Vice President of Enrollment and then ultimately becoming a college president; one who sees both sides of education and the marketing side, creating a unique brand that attracts students and keeps alumni engaged. He envisions working at a midsize school where he can help students on a more individual basis. Benton is a Crusader who is making a difference, a Crusader making a life.
