Crusaders Finish as Runners-up in Regionals

FullSizeRender (1)The two- day Allstate Sugar Bowl Regional Tennis Tournament was held at City Park this past week.  On Tuesday, April 19th, the entire Tennis team advanced to compete in next week’s State tournament. The No. 1 seed, Benjamin Chanes ‘18, defeated Jesuit’s Graham Buck in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, after losing a total of only four games in his three previous matches. Hunter Kael ’19 battled in his quarterfinals match losing the first set in a tie-breaker 6-7, then 4-6 in second set.

Ian Sigl ’16 and Zachary Brubaker ’17 lost a strategic doubles match to the eventual champions Brandon Beck and Trey Hamlin of Jesuit 3-6, 1-6.

The second doubles teams consisting of Matthew Spieler ’16 and Nathan Long ’17 and the third doubles team of Corey Canzoneri ’17 and Chris Russo ’18 all reached the quarterfinals to qualify for state. These eight young men EARNED every point (12.5) to finish as runners-up to Jesuit (17.5)
