The Crusaders traveled to Slidell High to open the 2013-2014 basketball season Tuesday night. After jumping ahead early and leading after the first quarter by a score of 17-11, Slidell was able to cut a sizable chunk off of the margin in the second period. The Tigers limited Brother Martin to one bucket during a five minute stretch in the second quarter, closing to within three, 26-23.
Midway through the third quarter, Brother Martin began to open the game up, going on a 17-2 run, which included a 9-0 run. This drive was capped off with a slam dunk by Jordan Cornish to stretch the lead to 52-34 with under two minutes to play.
Jordan Cornish led all scorers with 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Austin Gauthreaux contributed 13 points.
Brother Martin’s next game will be against Bonnabel on Tuesday, November 26th at Bonnabel. The JV team will start the action at 6:00 pm, and the Varsity team will follow.
