Last week, as Brother Martin prepared to celebrate its homecoming, Crusader basketball legend Rick Robey ’74 had a homecoming of his own. Robey returned to campus on Friday, October 18th to visit with current Crusader football and basketball players. He shared stories about his time at Brother Martin both as a student and an athlete. He talked with them about being mentally tough and working hard to succeed in athletics and in life. After his meeting with the teams, Robey attended the Brother Martin vs. Holy Cross football game as one of the 1974 players recognized for their District and State Basketball Championships. Robey then attended the Letterman Reunion at Lakeview Harbor with all the other alumni.
After Brother Martin, Rick Robey attended the University of Kentucky and was drafted into the NBA following his college career. Robey is the only basketball player to win a high school state championship, both the NIT and NCAA championships at the college level, an NBA championship, and a gold medal at the Pan American Games. He currently lives in Louisville, KY, and his Remax franchise is the No. 1 real estate business in the state of Kentucky.
