Senior Venjie Wallis recorded a monster night as he and the Crusaders (2-1) defeated the Hahnville Tigers 66-44 in the second round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO Basketball Classic.
Wallis came out playing aggressive in the opening quarter, scoring on three layups and sinking three free throws for an early 9 points. The Crusaders led 20-8 after the first quarter and would score 17 points in the second to lead 37-18 at the break. Wallis finished the first half with 17 points.
The Crusaders would outscore the Tigers 29-26 in the final two periods to advance to the semifinals.
Venjie Wallis finished the night with 19 points while Jeremy Singleton finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds for Brother Martin and Bruce Jordan-Swilling added 8 points and 3 rebounds.
Brother Martin will face Jesuit in the semi-finals of the tournament. The game will take place Friday night at Jesuit. Tipoff is set for 6:00 pm.
