On Saturday afternoon, the Crusaders basketball team took on the Jesuit Blue Jays in the Division I regional playoff game. While many fans were outside enjoying the Endymion Parade, the fans in the Conlin Gymnasium witnessed a spectacular performance as the Crusaders defeated the Blue Jays by a score of 56-45. The Crusaders found themselves down 19-20 at halftime and trailing by five midway through the third quarter, however a three-pointer from Tre Swilling began a 12-0 run for the Crusaders and established a lead they would not relinquish. Swilling lead all scorers with 21 points. Also scoring in double figures was Vejon Wallis with 13 points. Other contributors for the Crusaders were Jeremy Singleton (six points), Bruce Jordan-Swilling (five points), Pattre’en Hughes (four points), Davonn “Peanut” Moore (four points), and Tyler Epps (three points).
The Crusaders will take on the St. Paul’s on Friday, March 3 in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Gene Bennett Sports Complex in Covington. Admission is $7 for general and $5 for students. Faculty IDs will be accepted at the game.
