Scoreboard operators were busy at St. Amant on Thursday as the Brother Martin Crusaders and Dutchtown combined for 17 runs. The Crusaders (10-0) eventually won the offensive battle 9-8 in seven innings. The teams totaled 19 hits, including eight extra base hits and seven lead changes in the game.
Dutchtown jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Brother Martin haulted Dutchtown’s surge and answered with a run of its own in the first, scoring on an RBI single by Owen Magee.
The teams would trade runs for much of the game leading up to the 7th inning. At the start of the final inning, Brother Martin trailed by a run. After holding Dutchtown to a scoreless top half of the inning, The Crusaders took the lead in the seventh inning off an RBI single by Owen Magee, scoring Brice Johnston.
The Crusaders hit three home runs in the win with 2 coming from Gregory Deichmann (3rd & 6th inning) and one from Daniel Lahare who homered in the sixth inning. The duo teamed up for three hits and four RBIs. Magee also contributed going two for five with 2 RBIs.
Andrew Larmeu pitched two innings and allowed one run in relief for the Crusaders to earn the win.
The team will travel to East Ascension on Friday, March 14th to take on the Spartans at 6:30 pm.
