Brother Martin baseball started off the season by playing in the WGNO Classic presented by Marucci. In the first game of the tournament, the Crusaders found themselves matched up against the Franklinton Demons.
Parker Oubre went 2-3 with a single and a double, sparking the Crusaders to an 8-4 victory in seven innings over Franklinton on Thursday at Wesley Barrow.
Franklinton jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the third, but the game was never in doubt after the fifth, as Brother Martin scored five runs on an RBI double by Daniel Lahare, a groundout by Brice Johnston, and three singles.
Jarett Gongora allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk, and struck out six Franklinton batters in six innings of work on the mound for the Crusaders.
In Brother Martin’s second game of the evening, the Crusaders faced a tough Ruston team. The top of the second saw Ruston take an early lead, 1-0, but the Crusaders responded with a homerun in the sixth and one run in the seventh scoring on a wild pitch.
Luke Bernard got on base two times in the game and had a clutch RBI single in the ninth inning.
Gregory Deichmann was hot from the plate for the Crusaders going 2-4, with a homerun, a single, an RBI and a run.
Connor Fallon, who came on in relief, got the win for Brother Martin.
