On Monday, October 30, New Orleans got a hometown boy back in the city as D. J. Augustin ’06, a former player for the Crusader basketball program, was seen on the court playing for the Orlando Magic. Members of the Brother Martin community were on hand to welcome and cheer on Augustin with a true “Crusader Homecoming.” He was able to take time out of his busy night to take photos with some new and familiar faces from Brother Martin.
During the game, the point guard grabbed three steals and four assists along with scoring six points. His contribution helped lead the Magic to a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans by a score of 115-99. Augustin reported to Nola.com that it is still special for him to return and play in New Orleans.
While he was a student at Brother Martin, Augustin led the Crusaders to two state championship titles. He was also a top ten draft pick in the 2008 NBA draft. After spending four seasons in the NBA with Charlotte, he played for Indiana, Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Oklahoma City, and Denver.
