Alumni Office College Visits

IMG_2276This month, Kenny Spellman ’84, Alumni Director, and administrators Justin Fleetwood and Thomas Mavor visited Crusader alums on two college campuses: USM in Hattiesburg and LSU in Baton Rouge. Over 40 students showed up to share their college experiences. Brother Martin graduates are very successful in their college programs, with alumni majoring in a variety of disciplines including biology and chemistry (pre medicine, pre dental, pre pharmacy); civil, mechanical, and chemical engineering; secondary education in math, in history, and in English; economics; marketing; psychology; communication; and the math-related fields of actuarial math, accounting, and finance. Every graduate said he felt well prepared for college, not only in terms of academic preparation, but also in areas of time management and organization (thanks, they say, to the unstructured period concept in our schedule). College students have also embraced life outside the classroom, becoming extraordinary ministers of communion and lectors at the Catholic church on campus; athletes in club tennis and rowing teams; members of professional and social fraternities; student ambassadors and tour guides; and ROTC members. When asked to describe their Brother Martin experience in one word, students responded with “fulfilling,” “incredible,” “amazing,” “solid,” “prepared,” and “life changing”! The Alumni Office plans to visit the campuses of Southeastern University in Hammond and The University of Louisiana in Lafayette in the Spring.
