On Tuesday, December 12, Scot Craig ’80, owner and manager of Katie’s in Mid-City, welcomed to his restaurant a group of young alumni from the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association. These Crusaders are also former recipients of the Crimson Shield Award. Chef Craig prepared for them a full New Orleans’ cuisine of crawfish pies, pasta, jambalaya, and bread pudding for dessert. Alumni from the classes of 2007 to the present enjoyed an entertaining evening of fun and merriment during this Christmas season.
Director of Alumni Scott Corrente ’83 eagerly welcomed these young men back to New Orleans since many of them reside outside of the GNO area. They are in college or busy pursuing their career. The young men reminisced about the early stages of their career paths ranging from medical school to landscape architecture, and to environmental science. They were also able to catch up on current Crusader news and find out more about Crusaders attending Brother Martin. In addition, Judy Rodriguez, College Counselor Kelly Wild, and Director of Admissions Carlos Bogran III ’99 visited with the recipients and congratulated them on their success and applauded their future endeavors.
“The Crimson Shield Social is an event that I look forward to attending every year. I had a wonderful time catching up with teachers and fellow alumni who share such a strong passion for Brother Martin,” stated Matthew Quitzau ’10.
This Crimson Shield Award, initiated in 2007, is named after the school’s signature shield, which features both the cross of Christ’s crucifixion and the sword point of the Crusader who fights for justice. Each shield identifies a distinct quality such as confidence or persistence for example, that has led the student to achieving his accomplishments.
