Alumni Jared West ’15 and Andre Walker ’16 Potential Candidates to Enter NFL

Brother Martin Alumni Jared West '15 and Andre Walker '16 could be the next Crusaders to enter the NFL this spring. NFLDraftdiamonds.com featured both players in their interview series.

West, a member of the New Orleans Metro Area Coaches All-District, All-Metro, and LSWA 5A All-State Teams, is a running back for Northwestern State University. In addition, West is a recent recipient of the Clayton Scholarship from NSU that is dedicated to academics and must display Coach Clayton's trademark characteristics of leadership, integrity and worth ethic.

The Jack Clayton Scholarship, along with the Jack Clayton Plaza behind the south end zone of Turpin Stadium, was created in 1999 by former players who competed under Coach Clayton. His Demons won four Gulf States Conference championships from 1957-66, including his last team, which was undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation's NAIA ranks at the end of the season.

Walker is a defensive lineman at Houston Baptist University. Walker finished his 2015 season as a Crusader with 13 sacks, 9 quarterback hurries and 5 quarterback hits. Both players have shined this season, earning them the attention of professional scouts.

Could we see West and Walker as teammates next fall? Perhaps they will join Will Clapp '14 (New Orleans Saints), Roderic Teamer, Jr. '15 (San Diego Chargers), or Irv Smith, Jr. '16 (Minnesota Vikings) on one of the NFL’s teams. One thing is certain, with 22 alumni currently playing college football, Elysian Fields Avenue is becoming a forcing house for NFL talent both on and off the field.
