Over the Mardi Gras break, Senior Alex Lucas traveled to New York City to participate in the Carnegie Hall Honors Concert Series. The series consisted of a Women’s and a Mixed Concert Choir, as well as an Honors Orchestra. Alex sang in the Mixed Choir under the direction of distinguished and respected clinician, Dr. Jeffery Ames, who serves as Director of Choral Activities at Belmont University. Alex was one of 750 students chosen to participate out of the 18,000 international applicants who auditioned. He rehearsed with the choir for over 12 hours over the course of two days, and performed in Carnegie Hall on Sunday, February 7th at 2 p.m. The concert was part of Carnegie Hall’s 125th anniversary season.
Notable artists who have performed in Carnegie Hall are Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, and Leonard Bernstein, among many others. While in New York, Lucas also attended four Broadway musicals. When asked about the experience, Alex said “It was truly an experience that I will never forget.”
Great job, Alex!
