A World of Difference: Crusaders at the Anti Defamation League DC Institute

15040138263_c937c1edd1_oFounded in 1913, the Anti-Defamation League is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice, and bigotry. For the past seventeen years, the Anti-Defamation League has hosted an annual National Youth Leadership Mission in which students from across the country gather together to discuss various social justice issues. This year, the selected delegates participated in the Anti-Defamation League’s A World of Difference Institute activities that were designed to provide an outlook on bigotry and prejudice in both the past and present time. “The Mission” was designed to inspire young adults to lead their communities in eradicating hate and discrimination and appreciating diversity. The focal point of “The Mission” was the visit to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, which provided an avenue for examining issues of prejudice and injustice in the world today. The students were also given the opportunity to attend the annual Concert Against Hate in the Kennedy Center that commemorated individuals who dedicate themselves to establishing a peaceful world. The experiences that the students received reminded them that they each possess the power – through their actions and behavior – to make a difference in the lives of others as they work to form a No Place For Hate society. Two Brother Martin students, juniors Nicolas Chanes and Dominique Lousteau, were selected by the ADL to attend this institute.
