Our Brother Martin community is saddened by the passing of our beloved faculty member, Mr. August ‘Chris’ Caboni. With a 20-year tenure in our Science Department, Mr. Caboni was most recently a Physical Science teacher for our 9th-grade students. We tragically lost Mr. Caboni this past Saturday, August 31, 2019.
Mr. Caboni was a 1962 graduate of Holy Cross High School, he earned his undergraduate degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas in 1966. A lifelong learner, Mr. Caboni earned his Master's degree in Education from both Loyola University and the University of Loyola.
We were blessed to experience Mr. Caboni’s humility, peace, and patience every day as a part of our faculty. In recent years, Mr. Caboni did much of his work behind the scenes, setting up and breaking down science labs in the Meyer building so that our teachers could teach and our students could learn without having to worry about the details. Mr. Caboni took care of the details, and his love for Brother Martin was undeniable.
Mr. Peter Valiente reflected, “Without the daily dedication of Chris, our student labs would have suffered. His diligence and commitment to details are going to be missed.”
In last Sunday’s Gospel from Luke, Jesus tells his disciples to live life with humility, and that those who do so will be repaid in Heaven when they live life without the expectation that they will receive something in return for the good that they do. Mr. Caboni did a lot of good, much of it when no one was watching, never taking credit. He was a model servant leader. Mr. Caboni was gentle and encouraging, a reliable and tireless worker. Supportive and friendly with his colleagues. Encouraging toward and so proud of his students and their successes. He is humility personified, and there is no doubt that he has earned his eternal reward. Our school community would not be what it is today without Mr. Caboni.
May we join together in prayer for the repose of the soul of Chris Caboni. We pray for healing for his family and our school community, all of whom loved Chris dearly.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at JACOB SCHOEN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 11:45 a.m.
