Congratulations to Pierce Williams ’16, Vance Burwell ’16, and Jacob Clapp ’16 on signing their letters to play at the collegiate level for the 2016-2017 school year. On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, the Brother Martin Athletic Department hosted their spring signing ceremony in the library with faculty, friends , family of the student- athletes. Assistant Athletic Director Mark Wisniewski ’81 introduced the student- athletes before handing over the platform to head coach Mark Bonis (football), head coach Chris Biehl (basketball), and head coach Robbie Dauterive ’84 (wrestling). These coaches reflected on these young men’s careers and dedication to Brother Martin.
Jacob Clapp- US Merchant Marine Academy (Football)
Jacob became a three- year and three- sport varsity letterman his senior year. As a wrestler, Jacob earned the title as an individual state champion for the 2015-2016 school year. Jacob also earned the distinction of being the first athlete in football & wrestling to have more than 100 career wins since 2002. In addition, Jacob became one of the leaders in 2014 and 2015 record breaking offenses in football.
Vance Burwell- Delgado Community College (Basketball)
Vance averaged 9.2 points per game in 25 games this season, his only as a Brother Martin Basketball player. He scored 21 points in his second career game, and he recorded a double-double against Ellender in the Sunkist Shootout in Lafayette during the year.
Pierce Williams- Massachusetts Maritime Academy (Wrestling)
Pierce was captain for the Crusader Wrestling team and currently is a four- year letterman. He has had 132 career wins while being a state finalist. In addition, Pierce claimed a state title in the 2016 LHSAA State Wrestling Championships.
