Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field decathlete Wes Gonzales ’09 was one of 45 student-athletes named on Thursday to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country teams, which is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Gonzales, a senior marketing major, was named to the second-team and became the University’s 21st student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors dating back to 1980.
Gonzales scored a school-record 7,033 points at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational and earned third-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. Gonzales also set personal-bests in 10 events during the outdoor season and added personal-bests in four events during indoor competition.
