Prior to this morning’s school-wide prayer, Louisiana Public Service Commissioner and 1976 Brother Martin graduate, Mr. Eric Skrmetta, made an announcement regarding today’s “No Text on Board Pledge Day.” Statistics, such as sending and receiving text messages takes a driver’s eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent, at 55 mph, of driving the length of a football field, were read aloud to the student body. Mr. Skrmetta asked on behalf of himself and AT&T Louisiana that we ALL take the pledge not to text and drive for the safety of everyone on the roads.
