Nola.com: “Brother Martin’s two QBs have each other’s backs, no matter who’s on the field”

The following information is derived from Nola.com:

The two Brother Martin quarterbacks have been friends since their time together at Christian Brothers School, and they’ll share varsity playing time for the second year in a row when the season opens Sept. 4 at Southside.

"We push each other to be better every practice,” Fields said. “When we rotate in practice, we always give each other a high five when we go in.”

Fields is a senior who started every game last year, when he threw for 2,140 yards and 17 touchdowns. He helped the Crusaders to a 7-5 record and the second round of the playoffs.

Morgan, a junior, earned his first varsity snaps as a change-of-pace option. He threw six touchdown passes and rushed 18 times for 91 yards and one score.

Even in a limited role, Morgan made important contributions. Against Jesuit in Week 4, Morgan hit five-star wide receiver and Texas commitment Easton Royal in stride for a 38-yard touchdown pass in the second half of a 31-29 victory.

Fields also had a strong game that night, completing 21 of 30 passes for 323 yards and a touchdown pass to Royal.

Brother Martin coach Mark Bonis has long tried to rotate a second quarterback into varsity games. Fields experienced that as a freshman when he subbed in for then-junior Seth Dazet.

“Just getting those couple drives a game really gets you ready for that environment,” Fields said.
