Brother Martin NJROTC’s Operation Keep Elysian Fields Beautiful

Yesterday, the Brother Martin NJROTC kicked off its inaugural community service initiative called "Operation Keep Elysian Fields Beautiful." The cadets unofficially adopted a section of Elysian Fields Avenue to beautify through hard work and elbow grease. This initiative is based on the Navy's FOD (Foreign Object Debris) Walkdown, an aviation safety procedure in which sailors line up at the bow of an aircraft carrier, across the flight deck, and slowly walk to the stern of the ship, picking up any debris that could damage an aircraft.

The cadets lined up across Elysian Fields Ave, starting at Carnot, and walked to Mandolin, cleaning up in service to the community near the school they love so much. This initiative will help instill in the cadets the Navy's core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, and get them in the habit of giving of their time and energy for others.

This operation was headed by the unit's CO, c/LCDR Eli Schexnayder. Great work, Crusaders!
