The Alumnus of the Year award is presented annually by the Board of Directors of Brother Martin High School to an alumnus selected for contributions to his profession and his religious, civic, business, educational, and community involvement.
Born in New Orleans, LA, in 1960, Ronnie, Jr., is the oldest of four children of Ronald and Carmelita Hingle. Ronnie attended Brother Martin High School (BMHS) as a freshman in 1974 and graduated in 1978. Ronnie was one of the first three novices to go through the new U.S. inter-province novitiate in New Orleans, entering it in 1981 and professing first vows in August 1982.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree from Loyola (NO) in Secondary Education with a concentration in Math, Brother Ronald taught math and religion at BMHS. He also served on the board of the National Fund for Catholic Religious Vocations for 11 years, including several terms as board chair.
For eighteen years, Brother Ronald served as first councilor for the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, first in the Province of New Orleans and then in the Province of the United States. In 2018, he was elected Provincial of the Province of the United States, overseeing Brothers, schools, and various ministries of the religious community throughout the U.S., the Philippines, and England. Brother Ronald is currently in the second year of his third term as Provincial. He was recently named to the Institute’s International Vocation Committee.
