Students in Mr. Michael Lynn’s American History 7 classes visited Chalmette Battlefield and the Cabildo last week on the 198th Anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans. The 7th grade class viewed re-enactments of skirmishes that took place during the battle, saw cannon firing demonstrations, and interacted with National Park Rangers at the Battlefield. At the Cabildo, students learned more about Historic Native Americans, Colonial Louisiana, the Louisiana Purchase and the Battle of New Orleans by completing a museum scavenger hunt. Students will use this unique field experience to complement their study of the War of 1812 from both the American and Louisiana perspectives.
