7th Graders Get Hands on Experiences of the War of 1812

IMG_0023Students in Mr. Michael Lynn’s American History 7 classes visited Chalmette Battlefield and Jackson Barracks on the 199th Anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans. The 7th grade class viewed re-enactments of skirmishes that took place during the battle, saw cannon firing demonstrations, and interacted with National Park Rangers at the Battlefield. At Jackson Barracks, students learned about the Washington Artillery led by Lt. Col. Kenneth Baillie (Will ‘19). Students will use this unique field experience to complement their study of the War of 1812 from both the American and Louisiana perspectives.
