7th Grade Day of Service

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe seventh grade class at Brother Martin participated in a day of service held on Monday, March 24. The seventh graders met in the Branton Chapel for prayer and an introduction to the Brother Martin Service Learning Program.

The day was the culmination of an interdisciplinary approach to the actual day of service in which the seventh graders went to six different nursing homes in groups of fifteen with two chaperones. In Religion class the students were taught that the aging process is gradual and how they should gain a respect for the joy as well as the difficulty on those experiencing such changes. In P.E. classes, they learned about the aging process by participating in different sensory work stations.

The seventh graders got a hands-on look at our school’s service learning program and did some great work in the process. Next year, as eighth graders, the rising seventh graders will be responsible for giving ten hours of service outside of the regular school day.
