Throughout this spring semester, Nico Camero ’07, a Crusader Band alumnus and current member of the LSU Tiger Band, has been leading a group of 7th grade students in a music program designed to get them involved in the band program before they can actually enroll in a Band class as an 8th grader. The current 6-member band (4 horn players and 2 percussionists) has been meeting several times each week for group rehearsals at 7:15am and for individual lessons during unstructured periods. This 7th grade band performed with the Beginner Band at the Spring Band Concert last Thursday. They will also perform on their own in “Rhythmic Expressions,” the band department’s small ensembles recital this Thursday. The evening will also include performances by the Percussion Ensemble and the Jazz Band. The creation and implementation of the 7th grade band program will serve as Camero’s internship credit to complete his Leadership Development minor at LSU.
