Yesterday, the Brother Martin community gathered together for a school-wide Lenten Liturgy celebrated by Fr. Joseph Tregre, who is stationed at St. Joseph’s Church in Galliano, in South Lafourche. Fr. Tregre is the brother of our Spanish teacher Ms. Cherie Tregre and a graduate of Vandebilt High School, a Brothers’ school in Houma.
The theme of Thursday’s Liturgy was “A Time to Heal, to Help, and to Forgive.” Senior Cal Palermo stated in the opening remarks that the Covenant that God made with Abraham in the Old Testament is still alive today. In addition, Pope Francis has declared this year as a year of Mercy, so we are called to respond to the deepest needs of others around us. Also, Fr. Tregre reflected on the journey of Moses and the Israelites from Egypt to Canaan. The Lord provided a path for his people while testing their faith. From the theme of our Lenten Mass in this Year of Mercy, the Brother Martin community prepares for Easter.
“The Church calls us, the Pope calls us, God calls us through these works of mercy on our Lenten journey- our journey of healing, helping, and forgiving. This is how God’s Covenant is still alive today.” Dr. Tony Melito
